Our Projects

OUR PROJECTS

We design and implement projects based on a need-based approach, leveraging our extensive experience in several key areas:

*Education: We formulate people-oriented projects with a focus on providing quality and innovative education. Our goal is to disseminate information about the law, “The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE)”, 2009, among both slum and rural children belonging to low socio-economic condition and also to their  parents and to ensure the effective implementation of this law. We have crossed different barriers like child labour or working children who earns the major income of the family, to mainstream them. But, we are committed to declare that any children without school are a child labour. Anyhow, we will have to stop this menace and evils of society. No doubt, with the silent march of time so many Primary Schools and High Schools have been constructed. But, unfortunately in most of the schools the teachers are much less than the students. How is it possible for one teacher to teach 50 to 60 students? Naturally, the teacher is neither student friendly, nor the teaching environment is conducive to the mental and physical growth of students. In most of the schools there is no toilet, if there is toilet, there is no separate toilet for girl children, there is no arrangement for recreation, etc. We are deeply concerned in this fast time of mobile and internet. We create student-friendly learning environments to minimize dropout rates, and build a foundation for future entrepreneurs. We also don’t believe education means only in concentration in test books, but also concentration in the outer world to be practical and to get rare opportunity to exchange thoughts with peers, parents, friends, and teachers. In our programs we emphasize the teachers should not be teachers but the children’s friends and mates to learn from each other. In this regard one consultant in Odisha formulated an innovative project on Child Rights – Children’s’ Parliament. Thanks to Rajendra Kumar Rana, Debasis had the opportunity to conduct documentation of the project. In 2003 / 04, perhaps Debasis formulated a very interesting project on the education of indigenous children in Keonjhar district in Odisha. The project was most probably sanctioned by Edukans, Netherlands. Debasis also formulated / designed different proposals on alternative and innovative education for different NGOs in different states for Education Guarantee Scheme and Alternative & Innovative Education (EGS & AIE). The most interesting project of AIE designed by Debasis after a thorough survey in different brothels in Kolkata was “Education and Mainstreaming of Children Sex Workers in Sonargachi area in Kolkata”. Debasis formulated this project for Late Dr. Rajanikanta Doloi, the then Secretary of West Bengal SC & ST and Minority Welfare Association for submission to Central Social Welfare through West Bengal Social Advisory Board. The project was highly appreciated. In the year 2009 Debasis formulated a very innovative and need-based project proposal based on field survey of the severely malnourished children working in different brick fields in Barasat II Block in North 24 Parganas district for KDS, West Bengal. The project highlighted the issue of severe malnutrition, lack of access to education, lack of access to clean water and sanitation and also lack of livelihood security of the brick field children workers. It was sanctioned by Goal India, originally based in Ireland.

*Gender inequality and discrimination & Combating Gender-Based Violence: We develop fact-based and fact-checked concepts and design proposals aimed at promoting gender equality, wage discrimination, and stopping at any cost gender-based violence, especially in conflict regions.

*Women's Empowerment: We shape ideas of unrepresented women themselves and develop projects based on field-survey data, focusing on empowering women through igniting their latent desire to fly in the sky by way of conducting motivational camps, awareness generation camps, assessment of marketable skills and organizing building among the women in different groups, facilitating them with Mind Development and Thought Process for decision making power, skill formation training in emerging rural enterprises and facilitating them to market their products or produces in different local markets or different trade fairs or outside markets. We have in our bag so many experiences of successful projects. Debasis was given the opportunity to formulate a need-based project proposal for the less privileged migrant women working as Domestic Helps in slum area in Gurgaon, long back in 2003 / 04 for SNS Foundation, A Non-Profit Foundation of a Business House. Debasis is still grateful to Mrs. Indira Bharatraj Ji for the assignment given to Debasis.

*Health: We think health is most important human asset. There are some exogenous enemies like bacteria (good bacteria’s are also there), viruses, etc. But still, health must be sustained by the people themselves. We lead community-driven health initiatives with a focus on mother and child health, nutrition, and communicable diseases like tuberculosis, specifically drug-resistant tuberculosis (our focus is not on medical diagnosis and treatment and rather facilitating government health machinery, not overlapping). We also emphasize on non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes, by building community-based awareness, identifying high-risk groups through BMI and other factors, screening the high risk groups and identifying the suspected cases of diabetes through random sugar test with reading of 200 ml/dl and providing referral services to the identified patients’ to government hospitals. We have also a very bright strong record of working on gestational diabetes in the slum area in Kolkata. Debasis formulated project “Preventing GDM among Slum Women in Kolkata” with the wholehearted support and also technical assistance of Dr. Gijantali Saha, Director, Grecaltes. The project was later sanctioned by World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark. We have a special focus on diabetic foot care. Additionally, we design proposals for awareness campaigns on cancer, lifestyle modification for Hepatitis B and C, liver health, cardiovascular diseases, and stroke. We have a long track record on working on reduction of risks among the marginal workers, flying sex workers, Myanmar refugee women working as flying sex workers in the More Border, in Manipur and also common drug inject users in Manipur and Nagaland youth through motivation, drug de-addiction, and promotion of safer sexual practices among the clients of sex workers.

*Research: Debasis Chaudhuri, drawing on extensive practical experience, has developed innovative research projects. Examples include minimizing occupational health hazards for women farm workers, women bidi workers, and marginal workers engaged in flower plucking who do not wear masks.

*Water and Sanitation: We use a community-led approach to stop open defecation. Debasis formulated different projects on water security. The most innovative project on drinking water from natural springs developed and designed by Debasis after a marathon survey was finally sanctioned by the Japan Consulate of Kolkata for FOSSEP in 2009 and it was published in different Newspapers. Debasis conducted different sanitation project but once he formulated a sanitation project for ARM, Odisha in 2014 / 2015 had to receive different exchange of ideas from Nudja, Anja Nelsion, and others development experts from ACA, Denmark and ultimately a new idea of giving stress on motivation and awareness building for making all villages open defecation free was accepted. It was also new thinking for Debasis.

*Nutrition: We develop ideas and projects on a new approach to nutrition, centered on sustainable, community-driven efforts to combat malnutrition. This includes promoting kitchen gardening, backyard poultry, air-breathing fish culture in small plots, and developing locally available, low-cost energy food to address protein deficiency and reduce child mortality and stunting. Debasis attended a seminar of C-PART, a sister concern of CAPART as participant and had new ideas of production and consumption of energy food as protein deficiency is a main reason for malnutrition of mothers and children in India.

*Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Our work in this area focuses on eco-friendly and sustainable practices. We place special emphasis on promoting Farmers' Producers Companies, creating market platforms, and encouraging organic and alternative farming methods. Debasis’s two projects on climate resilient agriculture have been sanctioned and going on in Nabadwip in Nadia district in  West Bengal.

*Emergency relief and economic rehabilitation program for the calamities victims: We have a very strong track record of work in the field of emergency relief and economic rehabilitation, Debasis Chaudhuri’s formulated project “Emergency Relief Program” was responded very positively by German Agro Action in the year 1986 and also “Economic Rehabilitatoin Program” for the flood cum cyclone devastated Sundarban people was ultimately sanctioned by German Agro Action, in 1986 to 1988. The project was formulated by Mr. Debasis Chaudhuri and it was implemented by NIMPITH RAMAKRISHNA ASHRAM. With the passage of time so many other projects of Debasis in different parts mainly West Bengal and Odisha were sanctioned. For example, “Economic Rehabilitation Program” for the Cyclone Phailin Victims in Balasore district in Odisha, formulated by Debasis Chaudhuri on the basis of field survey and working as interpreter for Danish TV with Director of ACA, Rune Christopher in the waist deep water defying the biting of snakes was sanctioned by Bestseller (Garment’s business houses in Denmark) through ACA, Denmark. Debasis is grateful to Rune Christopher for his genuine feelings for the cyclone devastated people, Anja Nelson, Project Manager, ACA, and also to Rajendra Kumar Rana, Coordinating Member of ARM for quality management and meticulous implementation.

*Biodiversity Conservation: We promote and design themes on biodiversity conservation by raising awareness and implementing impactful, on-the-ground actions. Debasis formulated a project long ago in Jharkhand, most probably for SEDP. The project was on innovative idea of Environmental Awareness and Education. It focused on open air School for the children for environmental awareness. It was sanctioned by Toyota Environmental Grants Program, perhaps the only in India.

*Good governance: With a view to strengthening good governance with rule of law with peoples’ active participation and rather emancipation, Debasis formulated a project in perhaps 2008 / 09 for SEDP in the interior Sundarban Area. Thanks to Pradip Da, for giving Debasis a chance to prove. The project was ultimately sanctioned by Canada High Commission in its CFLI program.

*Differently-Abled Individuals: Drawing on our experience, we develop new ideas and design need-based proposals to support differently-abled people. In the mid 1996 / 97 / 98, Debasis formulated a project on community-led project for the physically challenged people (it was used there) for the then famous organization “West Bengal Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Minority Welfare Association” headed by Dr. Rajanikanta Doloi, secretary of the organization and a political person who was three times MLA from Keshpur in Purba Midnapore District and the Deputy Speaker in the Cabinet of our most respected Chief Minister of West Bengal Late Siddhartha Sankar Roy, in the Congress Government. The project was submitted to CAPART, New Delhi and later a Nobel Lady (not now remembered) came from The Spastics Society of Chennai / Tamil Nadu. Debasis learned many things and many terms about physically challenged people from that Nobel Lady. And being enlightened from that Nobel Lady, Debasis revised the proposal which was ultimately sanctioned by “Disability Cell”, CAPART.
